Proactive Relationships

Have you ever been in a situation where, regardless of what you want to do, it always seems as if you’re reacting to the actions of others? This is evident in our everyday lives but nowhere does it show up more than in relationships, particularly unhealthy ones.

The Lambda Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. along with the brothers of the Xi Tau Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. decided to address this need head on and devised a forum to educate people on proactive relationships.

In my PR class, we learned about the communication model and how effective communication was two-way communication. That same model can be applied to every relationship in your life. Oftentimes we found ourselves either talking or being the one’s talking but valuable information is not being gleaned. In order to have a proactive relationship, we must first tackle the lapse in communication. When participants were asked what they felt was the most detrimental aspect of a unheakthy reactive re;ationship, they all said lack in communication.

So, do you want to be on your way to a healthy proactive relationship, regardless of the type? Well then, be proactive and take it upon yourself to communicate.

Trial and Error

Greetings.

For some reason, I was unable to publish earlier so, here goes nothing!

Oftentimes, we get so caught up in the daily activities of our lives that we fail to recognize the world around us. People “rip and run” constantly, never thinking to cherish the moments given to them. This week, the Lambda Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. tried to give back to the campus and the Statesboro community as a whole. “The Southern Ivy League” had informational sessions for students and senior alike. The wonderful thing about these programs though, was that it encouraged the individual not to settle with the usual hustle and bustle, but to better themselves whether that be spiritually, physically, emotionally or even in the job market.

It is Lambda Kappa’s hope that people will begin to have an invested interest in themselves and that by making themselves better, they can in turn better the world around them.

Diving A Little Deeper

Have you ever looked around and wondered how it is that somebody going through a situation always managed to do it with klass? So many times I’ve seen people kool, kalm ,and kollected when then situation clearly calls for krazy.

I think this is because most people dive a bit deeper into understanding themselves and are in tune with “their star player” (Katt Williams: It’s Pimpin Pimpin).

The Ladies of the Lambda Kappa chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated saw this need and are stepping up to meet this challenge head on by providing functions September 20th-26th to encourage “self realization” if you will.

The programs will focus on

  1. Divine Guidance (Sunday)
  2. Table Manners (Monday)
  3. Hi My name is …(Tuesday)
  4. Street Smarts (Wednesday)
  5. Dance 101 (Thursday)
  6. Country Klub (Friday)
  7. Learning to LEAD (Saturday)

As you can see, the list of events varies and there’s something for everyone to do. So, join me this week as I begin to dive in a little deeper.

Breast Cancer Awareness

Breast Cancer is an epidemic that has been killing men and women for years. While all of these deaths are unfortunate, some of them may have been preventable. Oftentimes, we find ourselves using the age-old adage, “it’s not going to happen to me,” but what if it does?

Fortunately, many people have decided to no longer go unaware and have decided to get tested. 2009 marks the 25th anniversary of the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month organization. In 25 years, an organization and others like it have advocated the awareness of a global community and have sought to educate women around the world. Be one of those people who takes advantage of knowing, because knowledge is power.

Get tested and stay informed!

A point of interest…

The Xi Tau Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is putting on a program next week entitled the “Death of Ay Shawty.” This program is one that members and supporters of the Lambda Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. should definitely attend because it talks about appreciating instead of degrading women.

We have found ourselves in a culture where it has become acceptable to approach a female any kind of way. This program is designed to remind women of the power they posses and to encourage them not to settle for just any and everything. The sooner we “kill” this nonsense, the better of we will be as a society.
